Recycling Lids

Lids are excluded from our kerbside recycling collections because usually they are too small to make it through the sorting process, or they trap food and liquids in containers or are made of a different material from the container.

Small aluminium items such as wine bottle lids are a great resource which can be used for fundraising for charitable causes.

Items like coffee pods and beer bottle lids are not aluminium and cannot be collected.

Our local Lions clubs collect aluminium bottle lids, can tabs, (in fact any small aluminium item) for the Kan Tabs scheme for Kidney Kids NZ to support children with kidney problems, including the purchase of dialysis machines.

There is a drop-off bucket for these items at the Council customer service centre (110 Trafalgar Street), or you can collect your own and drop them off to our local Lions Club, just email nelsonhostlions1963@gmail.com. Collection cans are also available through Resene Paints – request a can for your business, group, school or club at www.resene.co.nz/comn/whtsnew/kantabs.htm

Please make sure lids are clean before you drop them off.
