Glen Daikee

DAIKEE Glen CouncillorMy principal place of residence is not in the Nelson City Council - At Large area.

I am seeking your support for election to the Nelson City Council.

I start by acknowledging the hard work of those before us and I strongly understand that what I will do as a councillor has a real impact on future generations and the city they will inherit.

I am a 39 year old husband and father. My wife is a nurse and my son attends Intermediate. I come from a practical background. For the last eleven years I have worked at a local asset and services company.

I know Nelsonians want bold action to progress Nelson forward and I look forward to serving you on Council. I will, with your vote, work hard to create a legacy that is exciting and affordable for all Nelsonians.

Thank you.

What makes Nelson so special for you?

What makes Nelson special for me is it is the place I grew up, went to school, met my wife, and now raise my family.  In 1867 Francis Stevens described Nelson as “the Naples of the southern hemisphere”.  We are sunny Nelson and what has truly made us shine is a heritage of hardworking people from all walks of life adding their piece to the puzzle to form a fantastic city now full of business, science, research, restaurants and coffee shops, walking and biking tracks, markets, craft beer, and of course, the best peanut butter.

What is your vision for the city?

My vision for Nelson is a city of economic prosperity in partnership with a practical respect for nature.  A vision where children, adults and elders are involved and engaged in their city.  A city where council travels outside the debate chamber into schools, streets and resthomes in greater service of the people.  A vision of strong top down leadership, inspiring and supporting people and creating a community proud and passionate about Nelson.  “One team working towards the dream”.
