European Paper Wasp
The European Paper wasp has recently been found in the top of the South Island. It is similar in appearance to the German Wasp and Chinese Paper Wasp.
While this wasp, like other paper wasps, can sting people, they are not aggressive and do not exhibit the stinging swarming behaviour seen in German wasps. Nests are characteristically small, and they do not over-winter to produce “super nests” in the following spring.
