Soil erosion occurs naturally, usually triggered by a combination of heavy rainfall, unstable geology and loss of vegetation, but can also result from land management practices.

A soil survey identifies different soils and their locations to produce soil map information.

Soil quality defines the condition the soil is in for its current land use. Soil quality is often referred to as ‘soil health’.
