Healthy Streams Field Guides

The Field Guide project is the result of collaboration between Council, Cawthron Institute and Media Design students from Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. Created to encourage people to explore and appreciate the biodiversity and history of two of Nelson’s much-loved waterways, they feature design work by NMIT students and are produced through Council’s Healthy Streams programme.

The guides to Wakapuaka (rural) and Te Wairepo/York Stream (urban) are designed to focus attention on water catchments. They provide a starting point from which to explore these freshwater habitats and to bring about increased awareness and care for our local river systems.

The field guides invite readers to undertake a journey of discovery through macro to micro views of waterways, their inhabitants and neighbouring species. They are a guide to the art of exploration, including references to the many sources of further information about stream-life. View and download by clicking on the links below.
