Changes to Mobility Parking fines
June 2008
CCS Disability Action and the Ministry of Transport have worked together to change legislation so fines for the misuse of mobility parking spaces will be increased.
The Road Transport Road (User Rule) Amendment came into effect on 17 January 2008. The new rule has allowed the fine for the misuse of a mobility car park to increase to $150.00 from 26 June 2008.
Permit holders must ensure that when using designated mobility car parks, that their permit is valid and clearly displayed.
Seniors Parking Pass
More than 230 seniors took part in a 12-month free parking pass trial in Nelson's CBD that ended in September 2007 to fantastic results. It was so popular, the seniors parking pass programme is now a permanent scheme.

Total mobility parkingParking concessions are granted to people with disabilities who have applied and received a mobility parking permit or mobility card. The card must be clearly displayed on the dashboard. The membership number must be visible whilst parked in designated mobility parks. This includes public and private car parks, eg shopping malls, hospitals and supermarkets. Concessions also apply to time restricted parking areas and metered/pay and display parking. Mobility parking, wheelchair accessible toilets, and accessible ATMs within the region's business and shopping centres are identified on downloadable area maps.
Please note: The fine for the misuse of a mobility car park increased to $150.00 from 26 June 2008.
