A joint venture with Nelson College for Girls for students
aged between 14 and 16, designed to assist the student to
make the transition from school to paid employment, further
training or to return to the classroom. The Ministry of Education
(under the NETS scheme) and Community Employment funds the

Kahurangi Employment Trust
This Trust has been set up jointly with Tasman District
Council. The Trust operates two Taskforce Green contract work
crews and a commercial forestry work crew and provides stepped
employment for the long-term unemployed. It currently employs

The Kahurangi Employment Trust was set up in 1993 with the
support of the Nelson City and Tasman District Councils. With
subsidies from WINZ it supports people with employment difficulties,
and is a stepping-stone into full time work. Kahurangi offers
a place for people having difficulty finding work to become
employed, meet new people, and feel part of the community
again.

The Council and the Community Trust jointly provide
Taskforce Green top-up funding for community organisations
to assist the long term unemployed into administrative and
customer service focused employment projects. There is sufficient
funding for 20 six month projects in the 2000/2001 financial
