How Council supports Nelson business
The Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency (EDA)
The Council has delegated its main business development functions to the EDA, which it helped establish in 2003.
This organisation administers projects that foster economic development in Nelson city, and where outside funding is supplied, Tasman District. The Nelson Regional Economic Development Strategy (“A Smart, Sustainable Region”), produced by a steering committee, provides a long-term vision for sustainable economic growth in Nelson.
Tourism strategy
Tourism is one of the Nelson Tasman region’s big four industries and the collaborative process currently underway will result in a 10-year tourism strategy for the region.
Nelson the destination
The region¹s two local councils support Nelson Tasman Tourism, a company marketing the entire region as a recreation destination.
Employment initiatives
The Council is involved in a number of successful employment programmes assisting the long term unemployed back into the workforce.
Waste education in schools and businesses
Waste Education Services (WES) will be working alongside schools and businesses in Nelson to reduce waste. NCC has updated the Waste Education Kit for schools.
